Newcastle Secure First Win From Free Kick

Newcastle United secured their first Premier League victory of the 2018-19 season with a 1-0 win over Watford. Their winning goal came from a free kick, so we have broken that down using Globall Coach to show how they got that all-important winner.

Their set up was interesting, with all 10 outfield players in advanced positions. They had two players standing over the ball, leaving the opposition to guess if it was to be a right or left footed delivery.

There were five players in the centre of the penalty area, arguably their best headers of the ball. But they also had players just outside the penalty area, giving the option for a short one which could have lead to a shot on goal from a more central position, so they had plenty of options to vary the delivery.

As you can see from the Globall Coach animation and the video above, they go for a wicked right footed in-swinging delivery with a lot of pace, making it difficult for the defenders to react.

Ayoze Perez was onto the ball like a flash, with short and sharp movement taking him away from his defender and he diverts the ball into the net.

Globall Coach is widely used by clubs to create their set piece program, using the animations to communicate their ideas clearly to their players, while also having the interactivity to be able to show variations with a tactics board and drawing tools within the software.
