Back to work

Getting ready for #PHL18

The festivities over, it’s been back to work for us all at GloballCoach HQ this week, as we finalise the preparations for our trip Philadelphia for this month’s United Soccer Coaches Convention. A busy 2017 has meant the time has flown by since the last gathering, in Los Angeles, and we are all looking forward to what promises to be another memorable get together.

So just how busy was 2017?

This time last year we were preparing for the 2017 event in LA, which was of course held under the NSCAA banner. GloballCoach underpinned all the demo field sessions for coaches, including FC Schalke 04’s Bode Menze.

We headed out to Maple Ranch, Kansas, soon after, for workshops with our MLS clients Sporting Kansas City. The side were on their preseason residential and we were there to support them in integrating Globall Coach into their preparations for the campaign ahead.

In the spring, we took time out to publish analysis pieces showcasing ways of using Globall Coach software and were pleased with the recognition we received for doing so.

We also moved into our new HQ here in the North West of England, the heartland of the English game. Our Liverpool base is right on the doorstep of one of our Premier League clients, Everton FC.

By the end of the European season, Globall Coach had a Premier League 2 double.

Premier League 2, or PL2, is the development league for English Premier League clubs, an under-23 league designed with a great focus on technicality, physicality and intensity with the aim of bringing young players an experience as close as possible to first-team experience.

Our clients Everton won PL2 Division One, whilst another of our Premier League clients, Swansea City, won promotion as champions of PL2 Division Two. We were delighted for both clubs and their staff, their success was richly deserved.

In May, we participated in the FA Wales National Coaching Conference, supporting the next generation of European football coaches in their development.

Globall Coach was used by the UEFA Pro-License group, enhancing the practical sessions of Thierry Henry, Mikel Arteta, Pepijn Lijnders, Dave Adams, Joao Tralhao and Mark Kennedy.
Our focus in Europe is not just on Premier League clubs, we are active with clubs at all levels of the game. In July we spent time with one of our National League clients, Hartlepool United, with manager Craig Harrison bringing us in to help reinforce his message to players as they prepared for a new season.

In June we were honoured to be put through to the Hype Foundation’s Sports Innovation (SPIN) final in Cardiff after being named as one of their top ten worldwide. Held alongside the UEFA Champions League final in the Welsh capital, the judging panel included senior representatives from UEFA, FC Barcelona, Adidas, Amazon and Microsoft.

We were back Stateside in August when our CEO, Emile Coleman, attended the FYSA AGM in Florida, meeting the clubs and showcasing our Globall Coach Junior product.

Meeting club representatives face-to-face like this enables us to demonstrate first-hand how we can provide a solution that will work for any size of club at any level of the game. We genuinely believe the software speaks for itself and, where a meeting in person isn’t possible, we are also able to demonstrate the power of the solution over a video call.

In September, we were delighted to see more success for one of our clients, with Sporting KC winning the US Open Cup.

We also spent time in London with clients Queens Park Rangers, shadowing the club’s coaching staff to ensure they could make the best use of the many features Globall Coach has to offer.

November brought another trip to the US for us, this time to Washington DC. It was postseason for our new clients DC United and an opportunity for us to train their staff on getting the most out of the product.

We also travelled to New Orleans for the NPSL Annual Owners Meeting. This was a chance for us to learn more about the challenges the clubs face and to explore how we can assist them at their different levels.

As the year drew towards a close, and after much hard work from our developers, we began to roll the latest version of Globall Coach, version 4, out to our clients. This is a major upgrade that, as always, draws on our discussions with those who work day-in and day-out in the sport.

Yet more success came for Globall Coach clients as we saw two of our MLS customers, Toronto FC and Columbus Crew, make it to Eastern Conference Final. In the end, it was Toronto FC who took the MLS Cup home – with some describing the Canadians as the best-ever MLS team.

That brings us back to today, and the last stages of our prep for USC 2018 in Philly. We’ve been creating demo field sessions for this year’s coaches and have been busily arranging meetings. If you’re going to be at Philly yourself this time don’t forget to drop us a line if you’d like to speak to us one-on-one – otherwise, make sure you come and say hello to us!

Wherever in the world you are, we hope you have a happy and successful 2018.
